Cambridge Primary School 2010 |
|
In 2010, we installed a Keystage 1 outside setting in line with Learning Outside the Classroom. In this confined area we created a sand play area, musical area, den building seating, a sensory path, sun sail and log walling. The school contacted us following personal recommendation. The school grounds were extremely bland and the head teacher wished to engage our services in line with LOtC guidelines.Primary Landscapes provided a bespoke and all-in-one service and were able to offer good sound knowledge in design elements that would fall within curricular requirments of the school. Key Stage 1 Outside Setting With the inclusion of sand and water play, musical instruments, boulders, sensory path, planter, Owl sculpture and a sun sail – all capped off with a fantastic den building session with the children. The den, constructed from hazel wands and liage has proved a great success.
Junior Playground We installed a picket fence made of tactile timber pallisade fence. The fence was broken up with semi circular seating areas, rotting logs and boulders. The rotting logs were an excellent source of learning for the children with all the bugs they housed! The children could also see how the logs changed in structure and form over time.
Woodland Area We suggested that the school could use a large area of their grounds for tree planting. Year 4 pupils worked with Primary Landscapes on planning this outside area including what type of trees to plant and how many of each species. The children at the school now use this outdoor space to learn about different tree and flower species.
Infants Area The perifery of the infants area playground was enhanced by Primary Landscapes in order to improve the look of the school and to provide an extrenal learning area for the infants. The area included peep holes through log walls and natural elements such as a root plate, all designed to promote inquisitiveness.
School Perimeter Fencing The prison-like fencing mesh fence around the school perimeter was replaced with a more decorative fence which matched with the school colour.
