Sandside Lodge

In October 2007, Sandside Lodge special needs school was successful in gaining the Peoples Millions Lottery Grant Aid which amounted to £80,000. Sandside Lodge themselves also managed to raise a siginificant amount, which took the project total to £106,000 and with the capital build fund that had been built up they were able to gain another £18,000 for decorative boundary fencing.

The project began in February 2008 and was successfully completed by early June 2008. The development included an open air classroom, covered sand play area, sensory play equipment for sound, smell, touch and visual stimulation, a multi-sport area, a motion area and an environmental area. Existing willows were pollarded and in due course will be woven to form a rolling boundary hedge that will be in keeping with the new Sea Shore decorative fencing; Nesting environments are also going to be created with bird feeders placed strategically for the children to monitor.
