Outdoor adventures are a vital process in giving young people the opportunity to work as a team, developing communication skills through problem solving, building confidence and developing physical wellbeing. The potential for learning is maximised if combinations of physical, visual and natural elements are used for learning. Primary Landscapes design and install equipment to accommodate a wide range of activities, from adventure trails to the chalk board, providing a diverse range of activities to enable learning dimensions for a broader range of human characteristics.
Children who are active at playtime return to lessons refreshed and ready to learn. Providing a good environment for play – with different areas, equipment, activity gardens – can make all the difference to levels of physical activity.
The school can get pupils involved in the design of the playground. What type of activities do they enjoy most? Would they like to have different areas for different activities? What play equipment do they need?

The structures are designed to invite and challenge, enhancing eye and limb co-ordination, team building and self confidence.

We actively engage children with den building. Initially importing hazel and willow we would build den structures with children from infants through to juniors, encouraging communication skills, team work and logical planning. We encourage schools to plant sustainable coppice tree species such as hazel, willow and sweet chestnut in the appropriate settings. With the inclusion of a management plan to help support teaching staff, the schools would be actively involved in creating their own silvicultural habitat setting, providing an invaluable learning resource.

As with water play, sand play is one of the most engaging features for children. Both offer investigation, exploration, integration, construction and a certain amount of mess! The incorporation of a sand play area needs to be carefully considered with regard to positioning in relation to other activities and for maintenance.

The sand play area can be a self-contained sand box ensuring the design conforms to health and safety guidelines, or can be specifically designed to meet the needs of the site. Primary Landscapes can advise you on best course of action for your setting.

We can also provide a number of games and activities which can be used in conjunction with the instruments for music lessons or for fun.

Ideal for promoting and influencing creativity, imagination, expression and eye limb coordination, the versatile chalk board by Primary Landscapes is the perfect addition to any outdoor learning environment.
The chalk board can be accessed from both sides with an area of 1000mm x 650mm. The slate board has a tactile smooth side for chalking and painting and a rough side for rubbing, chalking and painting. As an addition we can etch up to six figures into the slate. The timber supports offer a contrasting feel to that of the slate. The chalk board is robust and extremely durable. Timber components have a 20 year guarantee. The 20mm thick slate board has its own infinite guarantee for durability.

Including a multisport facility into your activity area allows young people to experience the thrills of sport and appreciate the interaction and communication with fellow team members. Combinations of varying sports in a confined space is possible. Rebound walls, climbing walls, basketball, cricket, handball, netball, football combined.
Team building, fitness, self confidence – all the positives in accommodating healthy pupils and a healthy curriculum!
No matter how small the area we would look to incorporate a variety of sporting activities, be it with balls, bean bags or hoops.

Water play units represent an opportunity for safe and controlled exploration of water and the forces acting upon it. Children can learn about buoyancy; what floats and what does not, measure volume, and see the effect gravity has on water when the flood gate is opened. There is also the potential for some real fun with this water play feature... who doesn't enjoy getting their sleeves rolled up and having a good splash around?

The water play unit is small enough to fit into almost any setting and is built with little people in mind. Because it is comprised of three separate parts, the water play unit can be reconfigured to fit into a corner or to give access from both sides. Primary landscapes can also facilitate the neccessary plumbing so that the water play unit has an inlet as well as an outlet for the water.
