Products (environment)

Environmental awareness and action are an intrinsic part of the school  life and ethos. It encourages whole-school action for the environment.   It is a Learning Resource, raising awareness of sustainable development & citizenship issues through active involvement. Primary landscapes work with the school in designing and installing the elements that can enable the development of environmental awareness.

Renewable energy

We have identified renewable energy systems as an important resource for exploring the effects of wind and sun and how they can be harnessed to provide an energy source, with the installation of solar panels or a small 600 watt wind turbine to power a water pump, children can be shown the scientific techniques used in using a natural resource to provide power.

Storage & Recycling

Depending on the space on offer and amount of vegetation waste created, we can introduce either a purpose built composting tub or build a bespoke compost production system, children can be shown the management of the compost heaps and how the bio degradation system works.

We look to include Water butts at appropriate rain water run off points i.e. down pipes, so that children can have the use of this water collection system explained and how to access them for specific purposes.

One of the most important issues for teaching staff, is the amount of storage available for the day to day outdoor apparatus that needs to be hauled in and out on a daily basis. We look at the practicalities, in correctly placing the storage facility for ease of access we can cut down the time it takes to get equipment onto the playground. The design of the storage facility with regard to the amount of equipment that can be stored and the access to it.

Whether it be a separate purpose built unit or an add on/extension to the school building, we can advise and include this facility within the project.

Planting/Gardens

The provision of vegetable gardens within schools has been widely promoted over the past few years as an introduction to plant propagation for children, we strongly recommend including a site for this outdoor education facility. We will advise you with regard to the optimum site required and set up a crop management system for you to adopt if you so wish.

Log Walling

We use log walling as a tactile, soft, aesthetically pleasing landscape feature. Used for retaining walls, planters and pathway edgings the log walling is versatile, blending with almost any landscape back cloth.

Streams and Bridges

To include a shallow babbling brook as an additional feature within a landscaping scheme further promotes the natural environmental aspect of your grounds development, introducing children to Aquaculture. Meandering pathways through wetland areas and over the streams, via bridges, can obviously enhance the outdoor dimension to your education development.

Natural planting

On every site we visit we look for areas that can accommodate natural environments, size does not matter. Promoting flora, forna, silviculture, mini beasts and wildlife, engages children with nature, creating captivating interest, investigation and exploration. Through careful propagation, the creation of these natural areas may impact upon their environmental interest as an adult.
